Record months for SLAM

By Sailing World Australia

Thanks to the teams and crews wearing SLAM Sailing gear, over the last two months this Genovese company has accumulated an exceptional number of victories, record and medals in the farthest afield regattas and the most diverse classes - from amateur to Olympic classes, to skiffs, offshore yachts and the America's Cup.

SLAM’s technical gear, designed using nanotechnology and microfibre fabrics, enabled these teams tackle the summer heat in optimum comfort. While at the same time, SLAM’s 'Ocean Waves' offshore oilskins, designed for the cold Northern waters and the extremes of the Southern Ocean, were worn by SLAM testimonial Franck Cammas in the Round Britain and Ireland Race onboard Groupama 70.

Over the years SLAM has focused a great deal on research and development and the results are starting to show, beginning with BMW Oracle Racing winning the America's Cup. The company also continues to be actively involved in competitive sailing all over the globe supporting top teams, medallists and record holders.

Although this was a record summer, it could still bring in more medals, depending on what the Laser Worlds hold in the coming days.

In 2012 SLAM will be in Weymouth for the Games, supporting both the Australian and New Zealand Sailing Federations. Also at the ISAF World Sailing Cup, the Australians took home the gold in the Laser (Tom Slingsby), Womens Match Racing (Nicky Souter, Nina Curtis & Olivia Price), 49er (Nathan Outteridge & Iain Jensen) and Skud 18 (Daniel Fitzgibbon & Rachael Cox).

While New Zealand's Sara Winther won a bronze in the Laser Radial. In the womens 470s it was Italians Conti-Micol who won the bronze in the worlds and silver in the Europeans, while Alessandra Sensini was on the podium with a silver in the RS:X class.

It was also a record summer for Esimit Europe 2 and Groupama 70 who broke course records in the Palermo-Montecarlo and Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Races respectively.

Plus there were podiums finishes in the TP52 Class for Artemis (who like Matador wear a 'Special Edition range' from SLAM), as well as in the match and fleet racing in the RC44s, where SLAM is onboard with BMW Oracle USA 17, Katusha and Artemis. Then on the Melges 20 circuit, Value Team had another consistent season with top place finishes.

’floating laboratories. SLAM’s passion distinguishes the company from the competition and when combined with this input, will inspire the designs for the future thus expanding SLAM’s range to include virtually every aspect of technical sailing gear.

Next up will be the Genoa Boat Show…with the launch of the Dinghy range by renowned designer Bethwaite. Stay on the wave with SLAM!
