SLAM News October 26, 2007
It's the first time out on the waters off Auckland for the new IRC 43 designed by John Corby: "Full Metal Jacket". The craft, optimised for competition sailing in the IRC class and constructed out of carbon fibre by Salthouse Boatbuilders Ltd, is a new entrant to SLAM's Sailing Team. The crew, on the first outing shortly after its launch, wore RC Spray Tops and Long Johns with New Match Race shoes in the light breeze conditions.
The boat (manufactured for a ship-owner in Hong Kong) will, after the necessary tests in the Golf of Auraki, set off for Hong Kong where it will take part in the Asian competitive sailing season. Its first contest will be the King's Cup in Pattaya from 1st-8th December; then it will be on to Malaysia for the Royal Langkawi International Regatta, 5th-11th January 2008 and the RHKYC Rolex China Sea Race, 21st-24th March. SLAM, therefore, will have a presence on the Asian sailing circuit with Full Metal Jacket!
